Ron Hull Demolition are proud to announce that they have secured and completed a contract for a major new Client for the Asbestos Removal and Demolition of the Shorehead Building, located on the University Main Campus within the centre of Huddersfield.

The complex nature of the site provided RHDL with numerous challenges both within the initial planning stage of the project and as the work progressed. 

Following an extensive asbestos strip, including the removal of licensable materials, the building was soft stripped back to its shell, in preparation for demolition. Before demolition, stringent precautionary measures were installed to prevent damaging a large underground service duct that extended along the periphery of the Shorehead Building supplying the surrounding University campus.

The Brunswick Building, a Grade II listed Structure and occupied throughout the entirety of the works, is located approximately 4 meters away from the site. To mitigate risk the North East corner of the Shorehead Building was demolished remotely using a Brokk machine following a vigorous investigation by a Structural Engineer to ascertain floor weight loadings and the need for temporary works which were installed before start. 

A key feature of paramount importance was our ability throughout the 14 week duration of the contract to implement a robust Traffic Management Regime to negate the effect of our works on the adjacent A629 which we accomplished to the satisfaction of all concerned. 

The remainder of the structure was demolished by high reach demolition machine. Following demolition floor slabs and foundations were removed and the materials processed on site through the company mobile crushing facility.
