As a result of competitive tender, Ron Hull Demolition were employed to execute this much sought after Project, involving the demolition of the former Synthomer Works, located in the residential area of Batley Leeds.
The project involved the demolition down to slab level of the former plant which produced acrylic and vinyl acetate dispersions, used to make industrial adhesives and paints. Decommissioning and removal of plant and equipment was at the forefront of the planning, and working with Synthomer this was completed within program. Additional to the decommissioning of the plant, key planning and direction for the sequence of demolition had to be undertaken, to ensure that live services were protected and remained live throughout the works.
Once the decommissioning was completed the demolition phase was split into 4 phases, each of the phases included; Asbestos Removal, Soft Strip Works, Demolition, Scrap Processing and Levelling Site. Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) with appropriate risk, COSHH and environmental assessments were produced for each phase.
Liaison with the local residents and neighbouring businesses was undertaken prior to the main demolition works commencing, this was undertaken carrying out letter drops accordingly.
In the development of our waste management plan, sustainability and environmental awareness was at the forefront of our planning and delivery. With the exception of asbestos, all demolition debris and steel was recovered and process at our multi-million pound facility in Rotherham, thereby maximising recycling opportunities.
The project was completed within budget on time and most importantly without incident.
